About the Play the Game Journalism Fund 

Independent sports journalism plays a crucial role in holding power to account. Yet investigations into international sport are increasingly difficult to finance. They are time-consuming, complex, and often commercially unattractive.

The Play the Game Journalism Fund is designed to respond to this gap.

Through public support, the fund enables Play the Game to commission freelance journalists and researchers to produce independent, investigative, and analytical journalism on the most pressing issues in international sport. These include governance failures, corruption, abuse of power, human rights violations, and integrity risks that too often remain hidden or insufficiently scrutinised.

The fund builds on Play the Game’s long-standing role as an independent platform at the intersection of journalism, research, and open debate. By pooling public contributions, we can transform concern and engagement into concrete journalistic work that serves the public interest.
