Croatian match fixing probe leads to 20 arrests

On Tuesday Croatian police arrested more than a dozen people over alleged match fixing and betting scams in a nationwide anti-corruption operation, a Croatian police spokesman said according to Reuters.

Among the detained are players, coaches and businessmen, all thought to have been involved in match fixing activities in the national football league.

Croatian police said it is cooperating with police in Germany and other European countries over suspicions of match-fixing abroad, and according to local media, the Croatian operation “Offside” led to twenty arrests.

German prosecutors last year opened a match-fixing probe in Europe and have listed Croatia as one of the countries where incidents had occurred.
