Real European Sport Model
The report investigates whether The European Sport Model (ESM) accurately reflects the real organisation of sport and participation in physical activity across Europe. It examines how the ESM is defined and used in policy and governance, and compares this with how sports are actually structured and financed. The study analyses representation, social value, and financial solidarity within the model. It also explores alternative ways of mapping sport’s relationship to civic life and public contribution. Overall, it assesses the gap between the ESM as a concept and the lived reality of European sport.
The study has been carried out by Play the Game as part of an EU-financed project named “The Real European Sport Model” led by the International Sport and Culture Association (ISCA).
