New ENGSO manifesto encourages sports organisations to be more inclusive

The European Non-Governmental Sports Organisation (ENGSO) has adopted a manifesto on inclusive sport.

In line with the EU2020 strategy, the European Year for Combating Poverty and Social Exclusion 2010, and the sport provisions of the Lisbon Treaty, ENGSO aims with this manifesto to raise awareness and contribute to discussions on the inclusive role of sport in society.Underlining the important cohesive and inclusive role sport can play in society, ENGSO calls on sport organisations, in cooperation with public authorities on both national and European level, to take action in eight areas;

  • Inclusion of immigrants;
  • Inclusion of social marginal groups;
  • Inclusion of elderly persons;
  • Inclusion of handicapped people;
  • Gender equality;
  • Sexual orientation;
  • Fight against racism in sport;
  • Fight against violence in sport
