Bonita Mersiades has worked at senior executive levels within federal government and the not-for-profit sector in Australia.
In the public sector, she worked in education, health and industry policy, including responsibility for Australia’s first National HIV/AIDS Strategy White Paper, the introduction of residents’ rights into aged care and the strategic positioning of niche Australian products in new international markets. Outside the public sector she has worked with health and sports organisations with responsibility for strategic communications and corporate affairs.
Her experience in football has given her a insight into both FIFA and football at all levels in Australia. As well as growing up in the game, and being involved at the grassroots level as a volunteer for many years, Mersiades has worked for a former national soccer league club, for a state federation, as team manager for the national men’s team the ‘Socceroos’ and as head of corporate and public affairs with Football Federation Australia (FFA) until her departure in January 2010.
She is part of a worldwide network of politicians, fans and players advocating for governance reforms in world football. Bonita Mersiades has co-authored two books – including one on the playing biography of Socceroo Frank Farina - and is writing a third. She is on the Boards of the Kolling Foundation for medical research (a research institute of the University of Sydney) and the Football Media Association of Australia. She is a graduate of the Australian National University. |
