Troels Rasmussen is managing director at the Danish Institute for Sports Studies, the Danish Institute for Non-Formal Education, and Play the Game.

Troels took up his post in May 2021 and has overall responsibility for all activities at the institute including analysis projects and publishing activities. Troels is managing project development, relationships, conferences, and debates focusing on sports and non-formal education. 

Troels has an in-depth knowledge of the structure, trends, and organisation of the Danish sports sector and he has a broad knowledge of the actors, ideas, and developments within the sector of non-formal education in Denmark.

From 2008 to 2021, Troels was assistant general manager at DGI, a big Danish sports association with more than 6,400 sports club members. At DGI, he was responsible for sports development, partnerships, and strategic operations.

From 2002 to 2008, Troels was the principal of Nordjyllands Idrætshøjskole, a Danish folk high school for physical education.

In the period from 1999 to 2002, Troels was a PhD student at the University of Southern Denmark, leading the project 'Democracy and education of leaders in civil society'.

Troels holds a Master of Arts in ‘Sports and Cultural Studies’ from University of Southern Denmark, and a Master of Public Administration from Copenhagen Business School and Aalborg University.
