Simon Licen Bio

Simon Ličen is an Assistant Professor in the sport management program at Washington State University the United States, as well as visiting lecturer of sports journalism at Beijing Sport University in China. He completed his PhD in Journalism/Social Sciences at the University of Ljubljana in 2011.

Prior to academia, he worked in broadcast media, served as the Director of Media and Communications of a WTA Tour event, was member of the UNESCO Slovenian National Commission, and worked with the organizing committees of multiple youth and professional national and international sports events.

Ličen's research interests revolve around mediated communication and sport in changing societies and include mass communication and sport, the negotiation of identity through the media, and the media in international, post-socialist and post-colonial societies.
