The 21st Conference of the European Association for Sport Management taking place in Istanbul, September 2013, will bring together leading teachers, researchers, students and practitioners in the area of sports management.

The Conference theme is Sport Management for Quality of Life
The multifaceted structure of modern sport bears the potential for both human enrichment as well as humiliating processes (e.g. racism). Sport can play an important role in binding diverse social-cultural identities and nevertheless preserve individual dignity. On the other hand, uncontrolled economical and social processes in our modern multicultural society may counteract with harmful results.
Nowadays in the “global village” Sport Management has to face these contradictory challenges both on the global and local scale. Big sport events as well as grassroots sports in the community should promote human enrichment by creating social and human capital.
The commitment of sport management to physical and mental well-being, recreation, social and environmental belonging, thus “quality of life” and the implications of this commitment will be the central theme underlying this conference.

International Network of Humanistic Doping Research (INHDR) invites all interested to its 2013 conference “What do we (really) know about doping?”
The conference will examine how, why and with what kinds of validity and accuracy we answer the questions we pose. What does the complex nature of our subject matter mean for the knowledge we accumulate? What can we say we do know? What do we still need to know? What can we possibly come to know?
A call for papers has been issued and abstracts are welcome on any area of doping research related to the humanities or social sciences. Abstracts can be sent to conference secretary Jonas Havelund,
, before 1 March.
The theme of the conference is “What do we (really) know about doping?” and the conference’s key questions will include:

How prevalent is doping and how do we determine this number?

Which methods are worthwhile pursuing and which are not?

What are the key problems still in need of research?

18th annual congress of the European College of Sport Science
- Unifying Sport Science

One of the main aims of the ECSS is to contribute to the unification of sport science. However, the tremendous growth in the field has produced further fragmentation. This raises two questions: Is it possible to unify these fragmented areas? Are there common principles between them?

The goal in the 18th Annual Congress of the ECSS is to present the state of the art in the different specialized areas, at the same time as offering a global view of sport science.

The 2013 ECSS Congress in Barcelona seeks to help sport science make its own leap forward towards an understanding of ourselves not as part of a technical world but as interacting parts of an indivisible whole: nature.
