Replay of Olympic handball qualifier creates tensions in Asian handball

The International Handball Federation (IHF) has confirmed a replay of the men’s and women’s Asian Olympic qualifying tournament for handball will take place, despite threats by the Asian Handball Federation (AHF) to ban participating teams. Japan and South Korea now look set to battle for the right to compete at the Beijing Games, as three Middle Eastern nations and Kazakhstan sit out the event.

 

Sport offers hope for future reconciliation in Kenya  

Following the disputed outcome of the presidential election held on the 27 December 2007, Kenya has been beset by a rash of violence along political, tribal and ethnic lines. Sport too has been a victim, though once the violence recedes, it is hoped that sport will be able to play a major role in reunifying the nation.

Play the Game participants have delivered their verdict on Play the Game 2007, with 94% of attendees rating the conference as good or very good. The conference evaluation has provided valuable feedback with regard to not only Play the Game 2007, but will also help formulating the programme for future conferences.
