IOC to cooperate with ESSA on bet monitoring

11 November 2009

European Sports Security Association (ESSA), which represents leading European online sports book operators, has joined forces with the IOC in the watch for irregular betting activities during the Olympic Games.

The International Sport Monitoring GmbH, recently established by the IOC will be monitoring the Games using the Early Warning System (EWA) managed by ESSA.

"I am delighted that ESSA will be working with the ISM," said Khalid Ali, the Secretary General of ESSA according to Gaming Intelligence. "The Olympics are the most prestigious sports competition in the world; therefore it is vitally important that the betting industry works hand in hand with the IOC to keep its competitions clean and free from potential event manipulation."

The ESSA has information sharing protocols with numerous sports bodies including FIFA, UEFA and ATP.
