A number of the themes that are typically addressed by Play the Game’s international network will enjoy a special focus at the sport management conference EASM 2012 in a separate line of Play the Game symposia.

As co-organisers of EASM 2012, Play the Game and the Danish Institute for Sports Studies have put together a special programme with a series of symposia focusing on the greatest challenges for world sports, along with a long line of distinguished keynote speakers from the world of international sport.

Play the Game’s symposia will work as parallel sessions and the nearly 500 delegates at EASM 2012 can choose freely between the programme’s 250 scientific presentations and the different Play the Game symposia.

Among the topics that will be addressed in the symposia are: the need for better governance in sports organisations, the road to greater participation in sport, the evolution of sports journalism, the exploitation and trade of poor, young sports talents, and the battle to host sport’s mega-events.

In the Play the Game symposia the EASM 2012 delegates can meet the following prominent, invited speakers:

  • Finn Baagøe Hansen, Regional Compliance Officer, Siemens, Denmark
  • Roger Pielke, professor, University of Colorado, USA
  • Paul Downward, professor, Loughborough University, Great Britain
  • Marijke Taks, professor, University of Windsor, Canada
  • Maarten Van Bottenburg, professor, Utrecht Universitet, the Netherlands
  • Jörg-Uwe Nieland, academic researcher, German Sport University Cologne, Germany
  • Thomas Horky, professor, Macromedia University of Applied Sciences in Hamburg, Germany
  • Jean-Claude Mbvoumin, founder and director, Foot Solidaire, Paris, France
  • Tony Higgins, president of PFA Scotland and chairman of FIFPro’s Player Social Responsibility Committee
  • James Corbett, author and freelance journalist, Great Britain
  • Harry Arne Solberg, professor, Trondheim Business School, Norway

Moreover, researchers from six European universities will make an account of their and Play the Game/Danish Institute for Sports Studies’ preliminary work on the EU project ‘Action for Good Governance in International Sports Organisations’ (AGGIS), aiming at creating a global index for good governance.
