Job responsibilities
Responsibilities include teaching on the Joint Honours Programme (JHP) in Education, where David is a member of the Sport and Leisure subject strand, helping to lead and deliver a number of modules. David also leads an innovative module entitled Volunteering in Community Education, which aims to encourage student volunteering and foster greater understanding of the voluntary sector. He is also the Year Three leader on the JHP, overseeing students' final year research projects.
Research Centre or Group
David is an active member of the Physical Education and Sport research cluster. He is also a member of the Association for the Study of Sport and the European Union.
Research, scholarly and professional interests
David's main research interest surrounds the governance of sport and related issues of regulation, sport policy, and stakeholder involvement. He has written a number of articles and research papers on this subject, and in particular examined the growing supporter trust movement which is highlighting interesting questions about accountability, democracy and decision-making processes within sport's governing bodies.
He has also appeared as a panel member at numerous conferences, where he has spoken about a range of issues relating to the ways in which sport is governed.

David has contributed to UK Sport's International Leadership Programme (which ran for the first time in 2007), where he explored the operating environments of International Sports Federations (ISF). Current projects
A recipient of a Jao Havalange Scholarship, David is undertaking research on behalf of the world's governing body for football, FIFA on social capital and volunteering in football. Click here for more information. External academic and professional activity
David has worked for the Hospitality, Leisure, Sport and Tourism Network (HLSTN), producing a resource guide on Governance and Sport.
He is an elected member of the Notts County Supporters' Trust, which is widely acclaimed to have played a significant role in saving the world's oldest professional football club from extinction. His work on the trust board has appeared in a number of publications, including David Conn's book The Beautiful Game?
