19.30 | THIRD WORLD MUSCLE DRAIN: SPORTING SUCCESS OR MODERN SLAVE TRADE? (PLENARY SESSION) Talented teenage athletes and football players from third world countries are channelled in big numbers to professional clubs in Europe through clandestine networks of illegal player's agents. If the young athletes fail to gain a contract, they are often abandoned by both clubs and player's agents and become de facto illegal immigrants without any means of supporting themselves. Play the Game examines the practice and discusses what can be done to put an end to this modern form of slavery. |
