Professional career

Geert Slot (61) originally educated and working as a teacher in Mathematics and Physics, has always been dedicated to sports, both in a voluntary and a professional way. As an enthusiastic amateur tennis player, he soon became a member of the board of the local tennis club. He gained valuable experience and skills, through active involvement at his educational institute. In 1980, the National Sports Confederation (NSF), which existed independently of the Netherlands Olympic Committee (NOC) until the merger in 1993, decided to already make use of his project management experience and skills for various sports.

In 1990 there was an opportunity to continue his professional career in the sports sector full-time. As the managing director of the NFWS, the former umbrella organisation for sport coaches in the Netherlands, he worked on the structural improvement of the position and quality of the Dutch sports coaches.

In 1998 he joined NOC*NSF as a staff member of the Elite Sports Department. He was responsible for long-term policy on Elite Sports, especially where it concerned the support for national federations, elite athletes and coaches. Since January 2005, Geert Slot has been head of the NOC*NSF Strategy Department. In 2008 Geert switched to the Corporate Communications department and became spokesman / press officer.
