Stefan Löffler

Journalist, independent

Stefan Löffler is a chess journalist, consultant, organiser and player from Germany. Formerly a full-time journalist specializing in science, medicine and chess, he started a chess teaching team in Vienna, where he is still based, and initiated the London Chess Conference in 2013, which he is serving as Programme Director.

Besides reporting and blogging about chess for Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, Stefan is working on a book (The Gambit) about the consequences of the reduction of chess to a sport. While some invididuals are benefiting, there are also costs due to the limitations of competitive chess for education and other social applications.
