Partner and lawyer, CMS Netherlands
Dolf Segaar started his legal career as a corporate lawyer with CMS Netherlands in 1989 and became partner in 1998. He has been a board member since 2003 and was Managing Partner of CMS Netherlands from April 2008 to April 2016. Dolf is member of the International Executive Committee of CMS.
Dolf has a special interest in sports law and sports-related issues such as image rights, broadcasting & digital media and events. He has taken up a number of board functions in sport, both on national and international level.He chairs the Doping Panels of both the International Bobsleigh & Skeleton Federation and the International Boxing Association. Through his experiences in managing a law firm on (inter)national level, he has developed a broader perspective on issues relating to corporate governance, which he brings into practice in the sports sector as well.
In 2015 he was awarded the medal of honor by the Dutch Olympic Committee for his involvement in sport.
His client base consists of Dutch Premier League clubs, sports federations, sports marketing companies, event organisers and sports equipment and sports apparel brands. Dolf acts as well as litigator in sports. He assists clients f.i. in cases before the Court of Arbitration for sports. In 2016 Dolf acted successfully on behalf of Dutch Premier League club FC Twente in its fight against the Dutch Football Federation to maintain its licence to play professional football in the Premier League.
