Ivo van Hilvoorde (1968) is assistant professor at the Faculty of Human Movement Sciences (Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam) and lector at the School of Human Movement & Sport (Windesheim, Zwolle, the Netherlands). In his research he combines philosophical and sociological perspectives on sport and physical education, with special interest in new technologies.

He supervises several research projects, with a main focus on digital technologies in sport and physical education. Related to the topic of eSports, he co-authored Embodiment and fundamental motor skills in eSports. As editor, he has just published Sport and Play in a Digital World (Routledge, 2017). With Jeroen Koekoek, he is co-editor of Digital Technology in Physical Education: Global Perspectives, that will be published by Routledge in 2018.
