Johann Skocek works as a Journalist for Austrian and German Papers (taz) and the investigative platform “dossier.at”. He is also part of two historic research projects, one concerning the fate of the Vienna football club “FK Austria” in the years of the Nazi Regime in Austria (1938 – 1945) and the other about “Images of Sports in Austria 1918 – 2018”, which is a work in the building up of a new national Museum, “house of history”.
He studied History and Sports in the University of Vienna and went on to write for quality daily newspapers in Austria, “Die Presse” and “Der Standard”. Since 2004 he specialized as freelance journalist on the interconnectedness of sports, politics and economics. He wrote scripts for TV-Feature Films an Books about the History of Sports in Austria, the last being a Biography of Norbert Lopper, the Manager of “FK Austria Vienna” from the 50s to the 70s and Survivor of the Concentration Camp in Auschwitz. He also lectures about “Sport in Print Journalism” in the University of Salzburg.
