Mike McNamee is Professor of Applied Ethics, and Director of the Research Institute for Ethics and Law, at Swansea University, Wales, UK. He has dual backgrounds and qualifications in philosophy and in sports sciences. Over the last 25 years he has globally pioneered the Ethics of Sport as a research and pedagogical field.
He is the author or editor of more than 150 article and essays, and 16 books, the most recent being Sport, Medicine, Ethics (Routledge, 2016). He is currently finishing another book that merges these concerns “Bioethics, genetics, and sport”, with Sylvia Camporesi. He is the Founding Editor of the international journal “Sport, Ethics and Philosophy, and Co-Editor of Routledge “Sport Ethics” book series. His work has been funded by various national research councils and the European Commission, in topics ranging from anti doping, bioethics, and eating disorders in sports. He is Programme Director a consortium of European Universities in a new Erasmus+ funded Master Degree in Sport Ethics and Integrity (www.maisi-project.eu).
He has served on many national and international committees such as the European College of Sport Science, the International Council for Sport Science and Physical Education, and is currently a member of WADAs Ethics Panel.
