FUNDING FOR PLAY THE GAME

Play the Game is funded by a number of Danish institutions and organisations. The core funders finance the conference as well as the secretariat, whereas other funders give grants targeted at specific tasks.



Core funding

In 2010, a total of 260,000 euro for the running of Play the Game’s office and conference is donated by:

  • The Danish Ministry of Culture

  • Danish Gymnastics and Sports Associations, DGI


 

Play the Game 2007

In 2007, an extra donation of 80,000 euros to Play the Game's core funding at that time of 185,000 annually was donated by the founders of Play the Game to ensure the year’s conference in Reykjavik.

Other funding

  • Nykredit Foundation
    7,000 euros earmarked for the preparations of the 2007 Play the Game conference


    Nykredit Foundation is a charitable foundation owned by the Danish financial company, Nykredit.  Nykredit is one of Denmark's leading financial groups with activities ranging from mortgage lending and banking and insurance and estate agency services.

  • UMFI

    As hosts of the 5th world conference Play the Game 28 October-2 November 2007, UMFI supports the conference arrangement with 200,000 Euro. Read more about UMFI here.

  • Cintamani
    Provision of conference gifts for participants at below cost price, as well as financial donations to Play the Game and UMFI based on sales.


    Designed and tested in Iceland – a country not known for its mild weather conditions – Cintamani is technologically advanced yet functional and fashionable as an every day wear. This combination of the functional and fashionable has made it a brand that Icelanders have been quick to embrace and wear with pride. For an Icelander dressed to face the rugged Icelandic elements, Cintamani is simply their dress code.

  • Danish Union of Journalists (Dansk Journalistforbund)
    5,000 euros earmarked for the provision of travel grants for participants from developing countries at Play the Game 2007


    The Danish Union of Journalists (DJ) represents all media employees and freelancers engaged in journalism or other creative functions in the media and the communications industry. Members, who number nearly 12,000, depend on DJ being ready at all times to defend their interests - either as individuals or in groups - vis-à-vis employers, legislators and other authorities.

  • Norwegian Union of Journalists (Norsk Journalistslag)
    2,000 euros earmarked for the provision of two travel grants for participants from developing countries at Play the Game 2007


    The Norwegian Union of Journalists works to: improve the pay and working conditions of members; promote the social, professional and intellectual interests of members; look after the copyright interests of members; promote the highest possible standards of ethics and integrity among members; protect freedom of speech and the freedom of the press; and, influence media politics in society.
