Werner Pitsch

Formerly at Johann Wolfgang Goethe University, Werner Pitsch has been at SaarlandUniversity since 2005 where he teaches courses on sociology of sport as well as on scientific methods and statistics.

 

His focuses of empirical social research are in the field of the sociology of elite sports as well as in the field of sport organizations. Work in progress deals with assessing and explaining doping in elite Sports by integrating sociological and economic theories, attempts at explanation of sport development basing on demographic data and methodological developments of instruments for assessing deviant behavior (in sport).

 

He has published many articles and (co-)authored several book in the widespread field of sport sciences, including not only sport sociology but also sport economics, demographic research, computer science in sport, and methodology.

 

Among others, he is a founding member of an interdisciplinary research network “Sport und Raum” [sport and space] within the German association of sport scientists bringing together architects, demographers, town/city planners and sport scientists to discuss scientific issues concerning “sport” and “space”.
